Kern River Trip

Posted: 05/27/2011 by goodie in Kern River

A few weeks ago, about 15 of us from Newport went to the Kern river for a camping trip. We had a great time even though the weather was somewhat jacked up. The river was extremely high and flowin fast so we did not float down river as usual….just tied to a tree and stayed close to shore. We explored the area, drank beer and had a blast. We are so relived to have Georgia back (Eli’s dog, brown boxer) after she went missing from our camp. She showed up 5 days later and 15 miles away from where we were at. We all look forward to returning to Kern in the late summer.

Station Fire Burn Area Re-Opens

Posted: 05/17/2011 by goodie in Mt. Waterman

The Station Fire ripped through the Los Angeles National Forest over two years ago. The fire took homes, lives and lots of dry brush/trees through the forest. Yesterday, almost all the forest closures were reopened to public use. That means I can again legally hike in the area. (even though I went on several hikes in the closed areas since the fire) I am happy that the forest is once again open and I am crossing my fingers that they will reopen Highway 2 soon. Highway 2 still remains closed due to damage from the Station Fire.

Here is a map of the reopened areas.

Here is a picture from when the fire was raging above LA.

Big Air and Kern River

Yesterday there was a low key  surf contest sponsored by Ghetto Juice. The contest was for who could bust the best and biggest air maneuver. The beach was crowded early AM with semi poor conditions. Never the less the contest went and Mason Ho won the $1000 prize. When I returned from work in the PM, 56st was packed with surfers still busting airs.

On a diffrent note……watch out Kern river here I come! Hope to see ya all there.

Gay Thoughts

Posted: 05/11/2011 by goodie in Jack Coleman, The Growlers

The Growlers have written another hit titled,  “Gay Thoughts.” This catchy song tells a story of two confused lovers….anyway listen to the song. Jack Coleman put the film together and shot all the 8mm footage. Scenes were shot in Baja and a  L.A. Mexican Tranny Bar. Jack told me he was very happy with the video and I agree….it rocks.

Check out this craziness…

At about 6:50 this evening the call went out from the bike path. People were ridin to the council meeting to support the re-zoning bill of the Frog House. (The “Save the Frog House” movement) I watched the meeting on TV and was happy to see that the Frog House was successful in their re-zoning bid. Just as the council was about to vote a young lady stood up to speak. This girl was hilarious, somewhat crazy and talked way to long. The audience at one point told her she was done, but she kept going. She finally stopped rambling when TK took the mic from her.

To funny…..

Meet Teka (ya I know it is spelled wrong). She was once the cat of our neighbor’s but when he moved out Teka didn’t want to leave. She migrated over to our patio and has stayed there since. She is really a lucky cat, spending all her time on the sand in front of HQ. Careful though, she does have a bitchy side!

Watch out now…

Here is a pic of Chiron and Friends enjoying birthdays at the beach a few summers ago…..con mariachis.

Goody’s Cafe vs. Goodies Cafe

Posted: 04/21/2011 by goodie in HQ

I was in Palm Springs on Tuesday and saw this cafe. The original has been there for years but it seems like they have opened a few more around town because I kept seeing new ones. Anyway thats Goody’s cafe. The pic of the burger, tator tots and salad is from last nights party we had at HQ. mmmmm Goodies Cafe
