The city of Kernville is an interesting little community on the outskirts of Sequoia National Park about 1.5 hours away from Bakersfield. It has a full on little town feel with lots of antique stores, a museum, coffee shop, a few dinners and community parks. The town also host several car shows throughout the year. This Rat Rod belongs to a local Kernville resident who participates in each one of those shows.
This past weekend I camped along the Kern River. This time we were located on the upper portion in one of the many sanctioned campgrounds, this one called Goldledge. It was an adrenaline filled trip with fun river floats, waterfall relaxing, F-16’s dog fighting overhead, coming face to face with a black bear raiding my cooler for food and doing some fishing. It was a different experience then lower Kern camping and it is hard to decide which I enjoy more. I guess each spot on the Kern has it’s pro’s and con’s.
I spent two days in Bakersfield this week making sales calls. On Wednesday night I drove half way up the Kern Valley and chilled by the river. I can’t wait to return to the area in September for our end of the summer Kern camping trip. (Let me know if you wanna go…..the more people the better)
I also was in downt0wn LA this week where I happened upon a bar that stole my name.
See you this weekend……waves should be good!
A few weeks ago, about 15 of us from Newport went to the Kern river for a camping trip. We had a great time even though the weather was somewhat jacked up. The river was extremely high and flowin fast so we did not float down river as usual….just tied to a tree and stayed close to shore. We explored the area, drank beer and had a blast. We are so relived to have Georgia back (Eli’s dog, brown boxer) after she went missing from our camp. She showed up 5 days later and 15 miles away from where we were at. We all look forward to returning to Kern in the late summer.
